When is the best time to go fishing?  Whenever you can get away!

Come join us in the Laurel Highlands for fun times and great fly fishing on some of the best streams in the area. You can fly fish everything from cold mountain creeks, limestone spring waters and our tailrace rivers for everything from wild and native trout to trophy size trout and everything in between.  Our streams offer excellent fly fishing and breathe taking scenery that will relax the soul and rejuvenate the spirit.  Not into trout?  Not a problem; there is some excellent smallmouth fishing in the region or maybe try your hand for “golden bones” (aka, carp) on the fly rod – what a rush to hook into these bruisers and have the reel screaming as the fish takes you into your backing.

The Laurel Highlands of Southwest Pennsylvania is one of the best kept secrets in the State for quality fly fishing and outdoor enjoyment.  Don’t wait for the first day of trout season to visit us.  We have plenty of waters that can be fished year round.

As the sport of fly fishing grows, more and more women are taking up the sport.  We welcome the opportunity to help the female fly fishers enjoy the sport in such a grand outdoor setting.

Are you staying in the area for business and didn’t bring your gear?  We got you covered; we can set you up with all the equipment you need to spend some time on our pristine waters.

New to fly fishing or you’ve wanted to learn?  Not a problem:  Ripples on the Water offers lessons for fly casting and fly fishing for men, women, children – the whole family can participate.  Spend the day with them and immerse yourself in a new sport while enjoying the company of your whole family.  Learn proper casting techniques, basic aquatic entomology, how to read the water to learn where the fish like to hide-out and have fun while you learn.

Fishermen2  Fisherman

As the weather in the Laurel Highlands starts to warm, the snow has melted and the streams and rivers run wild…there is only one thing that comes to mind of people living and visiting in our area…and that’s fishing!

The 2016 fishing season starts this Saturday April 16th, 2016 at 8:00am.  That is when you will see thousands of fishermen, women and children all out to catch the trophy fish of their dreams.  Whether it be trout, catfish, walleye, or large and small mouth bass, there are plenty of fish in the Laurel Highlands waters.  Just look at last year’s turnout, we had a whopping 46,654 Annual Licenses sold in the tri-county area of the Laurel Highlands.  That many people can’t be wrong with the terrific fishing in the area!

One of the great things to take advantage of during the fishing season is the “Fish for Free Days”.  These two dates are May 29th, 2016 and July 4th, 2016 (Independence Day).  The fish for free days allow anyone (resident or nonresident) to legally fish on Pennsylvania waterways on the designated days with no fishing License required.  All other fishing regulations will still apply.  Please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Natural Resources for more info: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/

Some of the top fishing in the Laurel Highlands area are just within a few miles of The Donegal Holiday Inn Express and Suites.  We have the Youghiogheny River, Linn Run, Indian Creek, and Laurel Hill Creek just to name a few.  So stop in and stay with us, but don’t forget to have those poles lined and bait packed for an action filled day of fishing in the Laurel Highlands.   For those of you not sure where the best places are to fish in the Laurel Highlands, give us a call at 724-593-1881 and ask for one of our vacation planning experts to help you plan an unforgettable fishing vacation.
